God made only water, but man made wine
          (Victor Hugo, 1856)

The land of the Golden Thrace – the district of Harmanli, is famous with its ancient vineyards and winery. The climate, landscape and soil there are exceptional for vine-growing and winemaking. During the last years several Bulgarian leading wineries were founded and built in the area. The basis for producing high quality wine is the good grape and the Harmanli district is famous with its excellent grapes.

Terra Tangra, town of Harmanli: www.terratangra.com , is situated at about 10km from Dositeevo village. Terra Tangra came on the international wine stage several years ago. The grape yards spread over an area of 300ha, certified for biological grape production, are situated on the slopes of the Sacar Mountain, not far from the Turkish border, in the area of Balgarin village. The Terra Tangras wines are produced from selected red and white grape varieties in short series depending on the vintage. The basic grape varieties are: red: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and the local varieties Mavrud, Rubin and Melnik; white: Chardonnay, Traminer, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc

Castra Rubra Winery – Kolarovo village: www.telish.bg, 10 km from Dositeevo. The winery capacity is 1000 tons wine, it owns 1500 oak cascs and about 2500 dca grape yards, 1000 dca of them already planted with own grapes. Castra Rubra is a Latin name and literally means red fortress. This fortress has been recently discovered by Bulgarian archeologists close to the village Izvorovo. The archeological founding inspired the company Telish to register the new Castra Rubra wine trade mark.

The wine cellar “Malkata Zvezda” (“The Little Pentacle”): www.malkatazvezda.com, the village Balgarin, is located at 13 km from Dositeevo village. The wine cellar was founded by D-r Stefan Angelov and his parthners in 2005. The name of the cellar comes from the ancient name of the area. The wine cellar has an underground cellar for casks where the wine is stored and matures, a bottling line, a laboratory, a sample room and unique atmosphere where the guests can feel the magic of wine.

Villa Lyubimets – the town of Lyubimets: www.villalyubimets.com, is located at a distance of 26 km from the village Dositeevo. The trademark “Villa Lyubimets” appeared on the Bulgarian market in 2001 when the first 3000 dca vineyards were planted in the Lyubimets region. The vineyards were cultivated with red wine varieties like the classical French Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and the typical Bulgarian variety Mavrud. The vineyards of Villa Lyubimets span along the lower reaches of the river Maritza, where the river runs between the southern slopes of the Rhodopes and Sacar mountain.

Winery Maron – Dositeevo village, built in 2008. The winery is situated in the centre of the village. The winery offers wide wine varieties. Maron first appears in Homers Odyssey as a priest of Apollon in Maronia. When Ismarus (where a race called the Cicones lived) was sacked, Maron was spared, and in return he gave Odysseus and his men 12 jars of his finest wine. This was the wine subsequently used to fuddle the Cyclops, Polyphemus, wits and ensure that Odysseus and his men could blind the Cyclops and escape out of his cave. Maron was also known for being the charioteer of Dionysus (the Greek god of wine) so it can be assumed that the 12 jugs of his best wine are the twelve best jugs of wine in the world. Guests of the house Dositeevo will have as a gift a bottle wine produced by the winerry Maron.
